Integrated Production
Summarize
The case of the olive grove in integrated production is one of the best examples of a reliable and profitable business model that promotes soil health. Being one of the crops with the greatest growth in area since integrated production was implemented in Andalusia (2005), the olive grove under this system seeks to implement production systems for both table olives and olive oil in a sustainable manner from the point of view of environmental and economic view. The regional administration provides information on the use and application of different modifications based on expert knowledge and pest risk forecasts. The objective is to obtain a product of both environmental and social quality through the granting of the integrated production brand. Different crop managements have different impacts on soil organic carbon and other physical-chemical characteristics related to other ecosystem services. In the NOVASOIL Project, we will analyse the feasibility, specific characteristics and monitoring system to see its replicability in other territories or other crops of an easy and linked integrated production system. To do this, as a basis, it is part of a community of stakeholders that includes key players in the sector as well as their connection to the market. This case study covers some 20 commercial plots with soils representative of the Mediterranean area that will provide the information required for the correct development of NOVASOIL’s objectives.
