The Assembly of European Horticultural Regions (AREFLH) is at the forefront of promoting sustainable agricultural practices across Europe. One of the highlights of the year is the presentation of the NOVASOIL project, a key initiative funded by the Horizon Europe program. This event not only marks AREFLH’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, but also serves as a platform to showcase innovative approaches to improving soil health.
The General Assembly of AREFLH was held on 21st March that took place in Thessaloniki (Greece) was hosted by the Region of Centrale Macedonia and presented the NOVASOIL project to an audience of stakeholders, policymakers and Producer Organization and their Association and agricultural professionals. The presentation aimed to provide a thorough understanding of the project’s objectives, which focus on the development of innovative business models to promote soil health. This event was crucial in setting the stage for future collaboration and aligning the project’s goals with the needs of different European communities. In addition, AREFLH has invited the participants to be part of the Community of Practices CoP) and informed that this year will be the annual event of CoP.
NOVASOIL is not an isolated project. It is part of a broader strategy by AREFLH to integrate sustainable practices into all aspects of agriculture. The project is in line with other initiatives such as SMARTPROTECT and Waste4Soil which also aim to improve agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability through innovation. By showing how NOVASOIL complements these projects, AREFLH demonstrates a coherent approach to tackling the pressing challenges of modern agriculture.
The NOVASOIL project exemplifies the innovative spirit of AREFLH and its commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture in Europe. By focusing on soil health, the project aims not only to improve agricultural production, but also to ensure that these practices are sustainable and beneficial to ecosystems. The knowledge and methods developed through NOVASOIL have the potential to inspire similar initiatives around the world, making it a model for sustainable agricultural practices.
