The NOVASOIL project had a prominent presence at the INTERPERA (Pera International Congress (#Interpera<\/a>)) held on 26 and 27 June in \u00d3bidos, Portugal. This important event was organised by the Assembly of European Horticultural Regions (AREFLH<\/a>) and the National Association of Rocha Pear Producers (#ANP<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interpera is an essential meeting point for producers and sector stakeholders internationally, addressing crucial technical and economic issues. In this edition, the conference focused mainly on consumption, highlighting how trends in the pear market have evolved<\/strong>. Consumers are showing greater interest in health, convenience and sustainability. During the conference, a presentation was dedicated to the best ways to communicate the value of people, highlighting the importance of adapting marketing strategies to these new preferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion will also open a panel on the current challenges facing the sector. It began by examining the European perspective on current policies and regulations, with a particular focus on the impact of climate change. Subsequent speakers addressed critical issues related to water and soil. Participants learned about a highly effective water treatment technology that can restore saline soils and enable saline irrigation, an innovation that promises to transform agricultural practices in areas affected by salinity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another highlight was the explanation of the importance of soil health, highlighted by the presentation on the microbiome. This term refers to the complex community of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, viruses and other microscopic life forms, that inhabit the soil. These microorganisms play a crucial role in the ecosystem, influencing soil fertility and overall plant health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NOVASOIL project’s participation in this congress not only highlighted its commitment to innovation and sustainability, but also allowed it to share and acquire valuable knowledge with other professionals in the sector. This collaboration and exchange of ideas is essential to address global challenges and move towards more sustainable and efficient human production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion has moved on to a second panel with the challenges facing the sector. Firstly, a European perspective has examined current policies and regulations with a focus on the consequences of #climatechange<\/a>. Subsequent speakers will focus on #water<\/a> and #soil<\/a>. Participants have been introduced to a highly effective #water<\/a> treatment technology<\/a> that restores salt-saturated #soils<\/a> and allows #irrigation<\/a> with #saltwater<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The importance of\u00a0#soilhealth<\/a>\u00a0has been illustrated by an explanation of the\u00a0#microbiome<\/a>, the complex community of#microorganisms<\/a>, including\u00a0bacteria<\/a>,\u00a0fungi<\/a>,\u00a0viruses<\/a>, and other\u00a0microscopic<\/a>\u00a0life forms, that inhabit the\u00a0soil-environment<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
