The Soil Health Legislation Coalition and the signatories of the joint open letter express their support for an ambitious and progressive EU soil health legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The deterioration of soil health is an increasingly urgent problem and strong legislation can be key to achieving the climate, biodiversity, water and zero pollution targets of the European Green Pact, as well as supporting the EU’s farm to fork objectives and the transition to a sustainable food system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Coalition stresses the importance of a clear definition of soil health, ambitious and binding targets, strong sustainable land use requirements, a binding “zero net land use change” target, a comprehensive, harmonised and legally enshrined soil health monitoring and reporting system, and a strong governance framework for implementation and enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Soil Health Charter Coalition represents stakeholders from across the European agri-food system and other organisations, all of whom have a genuine interest in protecting and restoring the health of Europe’s soils. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Signatories to the Charter include farmers, scientists, high-impact start-ups, the finance and consultancy sector, civil society organisations, soil, health and water associations, the food and retail sectors, the circular bioeconomy sector and citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Coalition offers to share its expertise and provide more detailed policy, economic, technological and legal analysis as needed to support the European Commission and DG Environment’s initiative for a Soil Health Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
